Sony Online Entertainment, who were founded nearly twenty years ago and were the developers of the very influential MMO “Everquest”,  as well as the currently in-development H1Z1 and Everquest Next. Today news breaks that   have been aquired by the corporation Colombus Nova. This corporation is an investment management firm, with fingers in the technology, media and entertainment industries. As they are no longer owned by Sony, they can’t continue using the name in their title, and as such have changed their title to “Daybreak Game Company”. They continue to work on and support their titles that they’ve produced.

What’s interesting is that immediately after this news broke, John Smedley, the president of SOE, and now Daybreak tweeted that they would be beginning production on Xbox One games.

This comes as no surprise, the only reason that they haven’t been doing so already is due to their status as a first-party Sony developer. In a press release from then-Sony Online Entertainment, they said “With the completion of the transaction, SOE will now operate as an independent game development studio and will continue to focus on creating quality online games, providing excellent service to its extensive player base, while centering on its untapped potential as a multi-platform online gaming company.” This hints at work being produced for mobile platforms as well, a speculation that is backed up by a post on the companies official forums: “This means that effective immediately SOE will operate as an independent game development studio where we will continue to focus on creating exceptional online games for players around the world, and now as a multi-platform gaming company. Yes, that means PlayStation and Xbox, mobile and more!”

The company will continue developing H1Z1 and Everquest Next, along with probably porting them to the Xbox One.
